This is only my third promo in 12 months, all for different books. It has worked for me in the past in increasing sales and gaining reviews.

I think the new rules on Amazon, once refined and universally acknowledged as necessary, will do a lot to make free promotions a limited, but still effective strategy for authors who are new, or have a new release. If Amazon and other platforms aren't making any money, the market will soon have to adapt!Bev Spicerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05035892477756704972noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5626888765918214416.post-42914075371932454372013-05-09T02:33:56.092-07:002013-05-09T02:33:56.092-07:00I agree with you that it does spread the word etc ...I agree with you that it does spread the word etc etc etc, no-one can deny that, but many people (me included) think that if half of Amazon is free at anyone one time, people will get used to not paying for books and it will be worse for everyone in the long run - which is why I have stopped doing free promotions. Apart from the fact that few have the success they used to with them, which makes them hardly worth the effort they take. Having said that, if one person reads that free download and likes it and then buys your other books then yes, it's been a success. I would always give a free copy of any of my books to anyone who asked for one, and I give them to people in my book group, and as compeition prizes on blogs, but I reckon that, generally, if someone is interested enough to read one of my books then they probably won't mind shelling out £1.99 for it.

Having said ALL this, I do not rule out the possibility of doing a free promotion completely - all of which makes me a bit of a twat for saying all I have said, doesn't it??!!! Ha ha!!! :)Terry Tylerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15077413235902203848noreply@blogger.com
